Patrick Henry Declares “Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death!”
On March 23, 1775, Patrick Henry rose before the Second Virginia Convention at St. John’s Church in Richmond and delivered one of the defining speeches of the American Revolution. His closing line — “Give me liberty, or give me death!” — crystallized the colonial argument that compromise with Britain had failed and that armed resistance was now unavoidable. The speech helped persuade Virginia to prepare its militia and became one of the Revolution’s most enduring statements of political courage.

Their return carried maps, specimens, and observations that reshaped American understanding of the West.

The group blended ultranationalism, paramilitary violence, anti-socialism, and postwar resentment into a movement that would become the National Fascist Party. Within a few years, Mussolini would march on Rome and establish a dictatorship, making this meeting a grim turning point in 20th-century politics.

Critics quickly dubbed it “Star Wars” because of its ambitious space-based concepts. Though many elements remained experimental, SDI changed Cold War strategy, pressured Soviet defense planning, and accelerated debates about technology, deterrence, and the militarization of space.

On March 23, 2001, the Russian space station Mir was deliberately deorbited after 15 years in orbit. Its fiery re-entry over the South Pacific ended one of the most important chapters in long-duration human spaceflight. Mir hosted international crews, endured fires, collisions, and repairs, and proved that people could live and work in space for extended periods. Lessons from Mir directly shaped the design and operation of the International Space Station.
